2014 New EnglandTeapot Show

2014 New EnglandTeapot Show

2014 New England Teapot Show

 Competitive Exhibition

Inspired by the advent of tea drinking four thousand years ago in China, the form of the teapot has arrived in endlessly imaginative variations humble, elegant, quirky and abstract. The investigation of the teapot as a pure art form has always been a fascination for design- ers and artists.

Instigated by Anita Stewart, this is the 3rd biennial tea- pot show in the region and second hosted by the Glen Innes Art Gallery, attracting an enthusiastic audience and diverse, artistic creations. Everyone is welcome to have some fun and explore tea drinking from the com- fortingly familiar to the distinctly eccentric.

We hope you will join us for this entertaining and diverse display of artistry and creativity with one of the world’s best loved icons.

Glen Innes Art Gallery AGM

The 2014 Annual General Meeting of the Glen Innes Art Gallery will be held at 6pm, Monday 24 February at the Glen Innes Art Gallery and you and your friends are cordially invited.   The Committee looks forward to welcoming you and any interested guests you may care to invite.

A special thanks to you all for your support of the Gallery.  Whether an “ordinary” member visiting the exhibitions from time to time, or a “hands on” volunteer, your interest and help is greatly valued. It is only with the support of you and other community members that the Gallery can continue to offer opportunities for local artists to present their works to the public.  As you are aware the Gallery also hosts exhibitions (up to 9 each year) that attract artists from the region and beyond, and includes travelling exhibitions.  The gallery’s efforts are recognized as being an important part of this community’s cultural and educational life.

Annual Subscriptions for Membership of the Gallery for 2014 are now due and remain at an affordable $20.00.  This entitles members to full voting rights at the AGM, and to a reduced commission on sales made for work exhibited at and sold through the gallery.  Non-members’ commission is 35% while members pay only 20%.  Members receive an invitation to all gala gallery openings and to any workshops or special events throughout the year.

Membership form can be downloaded from this website to accompany your subscriptions which can either be posted to PO Box 400 GLEN INNES 2370 or brought to the Annual General Meeting.

We hope to see you at the gallery in 2014 to enjoy seeing the talent of the New England artists and beyond.

New England to the Flinders

New England to the Flinders

We open the Glen Innes Art Gallery in 2014 with a very special solo exhibition

Colleen Gardener

New England to the Flinders

5pm Saturday 22nd February

Glen Innes Art Gallery, 72 Grey St, Glen Innes

all welcome, light refreshments served.

Colleen spent almost 30 years as a ceramicist in Western Australia exhibiting widely and regularly, as well as exporting.   Her work is in private and public collections worldwide.

In 2003 she took up painting seriously, describing the shift from ceramics to painting as “similar, in the fact that the design elements were the same and the dressing of the canvas, like the decorating of the surface of the pot “.   A self-taught painter, in a short period of time, Colleen has won many prizes, along with the prestigious emerging new artist award, sponsored by Lasting Impressions Gallery, Kenilworth Qld, in her second year of painting.

Colleen works in oils and acrylics and has always been attracted to the Impressionists.   A recent six week painting trip to the Flinders, left a lasting impression on her and this latest body of work in New England to the Flinders demonstrates a shift away from her usual still life to landscapes, capturing the areas of the New England around Shannonvale and the Mann River, to the Flinders Ranges, tracing some of the trails painted by Sir Hans Heysen, the works are for sale and are very reasonably priced.

We hope you will join us for this first exhibition for the year.
