2015 GLEN ARCHIES PORTRAIT PRIZE

Glen-Archies-2015-PosterSmThis year celebrates the 5th Glen Archies Portrait Prize which is a non-acquisitive exhibition and held every two years.

The Gala Opening and presentation of prizes will be at

4pm  Saturday 23rd of May

The judge for this year’s event is former Director of the New England Regional Art Museum and now Regional Arts Development Officer for Arts North West, Ms Caroline Downer.

The entry fee for the opening will be $5 which includes refreshments, live entertainment and the chance to see a familiar face or two immortalised in an artwork.

Many of the works will be for sale and this will be an excellent opportunity to purchase some unique works by our regional artists.

2015 is also the Glen Innes Art Gallery’s 10th anniversary, over the last ten years volunteers have put together around 9 exhibitions each year; helped display the Waste into Art Competition; acted as stewards for the annual Glen Innes Show; arranged and hosted numerous art workshops and maintain the Glen Innes Fine Arts Collection of acquired art works that are on public display around Glen Innes.

Without the dedication of previous committees and loyal volunteers this would not have been possible, so a huge thanks must go to all who have been involved over the years. The Glen Archies will be the occasion to celebrate the gallery’s decade of success.

The Glen Innes Art Gallery would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the very generous sponsors for the 2015 Glen Innes Archies Portrait Prize and look forward to acknowledging their contributions on the opening night.

The 2015 Sponsors are:

New England Community Mutual, Glen Innes Severn Council, Eastmon Digital, Crofters Cottage Café, Glen Innes Arts Council, Glen Innes and District Services Club, Wright Robertson Winery and the Glen Innes Art Gallery.

2015 Glen Archies Portrait Prize

2015 Glen Archies Portrait Prize

Entry forms downloadable HERE for the 2015 Glen Archies Portrait Prize..

This competitive exhibition is held every two years at the Glen Innes Art Gallery and always suprises and delights.

  • This event is our lighthearted answer to the Archibald Prize and provides an opportunity for the region's artists to create portraits in either 2D, 3D or photography.
  • The idea for the Glen Archies was put forward by former member, Sharon Betteridge as a nod to the Archibald Prize. The following year the first Glen Archies Portrait Competition was launched at the Glen Innes Art Gallery. Over 600 visitors saw the first Glen Archies and visitation has been around that figure in subsequent exhibitions.
  • The gallery receives around 50+ entries from local and regional artists for this art prize and this year we hope to increase this number. The Glen Innes Severn Council has supported this event since its inception, as has Howard Eastwood of Eastmon Digital and it is due to this generous support from these and other sponsors that the gallery can offer a handsome total prize pool of over $2000.
  • The Glen Archies Portrait Prize is non-acquisitive, this year celebrates our 5th Glen Archies.
  • This year is also the gallery's 10th anniversary in the Glen Innes Severn Learning Centre and the committee are pulling out all stops to make the Glen Archies a celebratory event.

  • We hope you can join us on the gala night opening 4pm on Saturday 23 May.
