Kaleidoscope Exhibition

“Kaleidoscope” is the name of the new solo exhibition at the Glen Innes Art Gallery by Inverell artist Travis Collins. Travis is also a past student of the Glen Innes TAFE College where he was encouraged by Max Powell to experiment with many different mediums and styles as well as developing modern compositions.

The vivid artworks that are on display are both traditional and contemporary with subject matter ranging from local landscape oil paintings to underwater sea creature prints. Travis has endeavoured to challenge the audience with his paintings by making social comment about how prime agricultural land is being sacrificed for the mining boom. Travis has also included pieces of work which offer great contrast such as his silhouette and pointillism paintings. The dark tone of the blue/black  Paynes Grey helps the other colours to dramatically resonate from the canvas.

Gala opening  on the 4th of August  and the exhibition will be on show until the 31st of August. Travis will be available to discuss his artwork in more detail at the gallery on Saturday the 18th of August between 9:30am and 12pm.

Golden Days

Next up is “Golden Days” curated by Max Powell. 21st May – 15th June, with a Gala Opening at the later time of 6pm on Saturday 19th May (all welcome). Jeff Manning is expected to be providing music for the occasion. The exhibition features new work by some of the artists that exhibited at the Golden Wattle Gallery, established GIFACS, and created the extensive GIFACS community art collection that can be seen in such places as the library, community centre, hospital and High School. The Art Gallery is now the custodian of that collection. From those early days artists have gone on to create businesses, hold workshops, establish teaching positions and advance their artistry.

Greville Wilton, Tanya Robertson – Cuninghame, Jeff Manning, Maryanne la Cour, Max Powell, Steve Wright, Anne Denise, Peter McLean, Bronwyn McKean, Christin Cutlack, Nicci Jones and Anne Hazelwood are amongst those exhibiting.
