New England to the Flinders

New England to the Flinders

We open the Glen Innes Art Gallery in 2014 with a very special solo exhibition

Colleen Gardener

New England to the Flinders

5pm Saturday 22nd February

Glen Innes Art Gallery, 72 Grey St, Glen Innes

all welcome, light refreshments served.

Colleen spent almost 30 years as a ceramicist in Western Australia exhibiting widely and regularly, as well as exporting.   Her work is in private and public collections worldwide.

In 2003 she took up painting seriously, describing the shift from ceramics to painting as “similar, in the fact that the design elements were the same and the dressing of the canvas, like the decorating of the surface of the pot “.   A self-taught painter, in a short period of time, Colleen has won many prizes, along with the prestigious emerging new artist award, sponsored by Lasting Impressions Gallery, Kenilworth Qld, in her second year of painting.

Colleen works in oils and acrylics and has always been attracted to the Impressionists.   A recent six week painting trip to the Flinders, left a lasting impression on her and this latest body of work in New England to the Flinders demonstrates a shift away from her usual still life to landscapes, capturing the areas of the New England around Shannonvale and the Mann River, to the Flinders Ranges, tracing some of the trails painted by Sir Hans Heysen, the works are for sale and are very reasonably priced.

We hope you will join us for this first exhibition for the year.

Colour Connect Exhibition

Colour Connect Exhibition

COLOUR CONNECT is an exhibition of recent artworks by local artists Max Powell and Marianne la Cour. The exhibition depicts both artists relationship with colour in their art making. The use of colour by artists allows a connection with the viewer and in a unique way communicates what they aim to express in their artwork.

In this exhibition Max Powell explores how colour can be used in the creation of forms and painted decoration. For Max, clay is an ageless material in which all kinds of stories and feelings can be mixed into the potter’s clay.

As an abstract artist the most essential expressive element of painting for Marianne la Cour is the connection with colour. In this exhibition Marianne’s paintings explore how one colour leads into the next colour and the dynamic relationship that evolves between colours.

COLOURS CONNECT opens on SATURDAY 30th NOVEMBER 4 pm at Glen Innes Art Gallery and is open from SUNDAY 1st until THURSDAY 5th DECEMBER – 10 am to 4 pm

In the Wilderness

In the Wilderness

The Glen Innes Art Gallery is very proud to welcome back one of its founding committee members to present his first solo exhibition in the region since 2008.  Peter McLean was a Glen Innes local and passionate member of the arts community until 2005 when he relocated to Canberra to pursue formal studies in printmaking and drawing at the Australian National University School of Art.  Now a full time artist who exhibits and teaches regularly, he will be showing In The Wilderness, an exhibition of figurative drawings and prints at the Glen Innes Art Gallery.

He will give an artist talk at The Glen Innes Innes Art Gallery (Conference Room) Tuesday 1st October at 2 pm.

In The Wilderness opens at Glen Innes Art Gallery 71 Grey Street Glen Innes at 4pm, Saturday 28 September.
